Bernice Licha Memorial Ride

On March 26, 2011, Licha Construction, the John Wayne Cancer Foundation/Team Duke and other professionals in the construction/architectural/engineering industry met for a day of fun filled dirt bike riding. All entrance fees went directly to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation to help research cures for cancer. It was a day for all professions in the construction industry to come together and support a good cause. A light breakfast, BBQ lunch, Team Duke Merchandise, and a raffle for great prizes was provided to anyone who wanted to donate and join this event.

The ride began at 10:00AM on Saturday, we rode from our base camp at CA 395 and Searles Station Rd to the Trona Pinnacles. After several hours of riding, we arrived back at our base camp for a BBQ lunch and to raffle off the great prizes provided by our sponsers. The base camp allowed overnight camping (motorhomes, trailers, etc.), some riders chose to stay Friday and Saturday night. It was a great event, we raised over $4,000 for the foundation and had a great time doing it. A big thank you to  everyone that participated!

John Wayne beat lung cancer in 1964. He died 15 years later after a struggle with cancer of the stomach. During this difficult period, he became passionate about helping others fight this terrible disease. To honor his memory, his family created the John Wayne Cancer Foundation (JWCF) to bring courage, strength and grit to the fight against cancer. Since its founding in 1985, the JWCF has supported awareness programs, education programs and support groups. JWCF has also been committed to groundbreaking cancer research and education at the John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI). The JWCF will continue the fight its namesake started.
